Job Description and Responsibilities:

About Texas Childrens Hospital

Texas Children's Hospital is expanding its care to the community and constructing one of the nation's largest suburban pediatric hospitals. Located in west Houston at I-10 and Barker Cypress, the new West Campus will offer quality and convenience to area parents and children.

The hospital will offer outpatient services, including but not limited to, pediatric surgery, orthopedic surgery, pulmonary medicine, and physical medicine and rehab services starting in the fall of 2010. Inpatient and emergency center services as well as advanced diagnostic imaging and a neurophysiology sleep laboratory will be available in the spring of 2011.

When fully complete, Texas Children's West Campus will incorporate evidence-based design principles that promote healing, such as park-like settings, natural light and views of nature and water. Additionally, all 500,000 square feet will be devoted to providing the best possible care from the experienced doctors you've come to trust at Texas Children's Hospital.

Position Summary

Overview:
Plan, evaluate, organize and implement physical therapy treatment programs in a developmentally and age appropriate manner for patients (0 - adulthood).

Responsibilities:
Complete patient evaluations and reassessments; develop an individualized plan of care based upon evaluation/reassessment findings; develop measurable long term and short term goals; perform patient care and related activities while meeting productivity/time management; communicate and collaborate with other members of the patient's interdisciplinary care team and coordinate treatment plan; monitor patient response to treatment intervention; recommend appropriate adaptive equipment; design and fabricate orthotic equipment and adaptive devices; recommend termination of treatment when appropriate; assess patient and family needs regarding their level of understanding, ability to assimilate information and the most desirable method of teaching; provide accurate and thorough information to patients and families concerning their participation in the patient's continuity of care; assess patient and family's understanding of, cooperation with and participation in their own care; develop and instruct patient and family in appropriate home treatment program; document information in patient's medical record; assist in patient billing process; plan, coordinate and present educational in-services to departmental staff, hospital, physicians or the community in addition to those scheduled post-workshop training; provide clinical leadership role as a clinical instructor; participate in the design and development of the departmental new employee orientation and and offer ongoing feedback into orientation process while orienting new staff; provide successful mentorship opportunities to less experienced professional staff (in area of specialty); offer to share knowledge and skills willingly with peers; demonstrate initiative in the design and implementation of program development within recognized area of specialty; povide clinical expertise to outpatient clinics and programs within recognized area of specialty; collaborate with interdisciplinary team to facilitate skill enhancement; assist in the departmental performance improvement plan; identify opportunities for improvement, collect data and implement deficiency resolution.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge and understanding of acute rehabilitative care pediatric physical therapy developmentally appropriate for children ages 0 - adulthood. Successful demonstration of the professional competencies, and at least three specialty clinical competencies, the ability to be articulate, courteous and supportive in dealing with hospital, administrative and departmental personnel, patients and parents with ability to honor confidentiality; to independently treat patients by developing and following the established therapy plan of care; demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; utilize basic office equipment such as fax, xerox and PC.

Education, Experience and License:
Degree in physical therapy; current PT license (TX); six (6) years clinical experience (pediatrics preferred); advanced training and/or certification of specialty required.
