Position Summary

Overview:
Provide nursing care to patients having a diagnostic imaging study; ensure patient comfort and safety while collaborating with DI staff.

Responsibilities:
Complete a pre-sedation assessment of outpatients and review pre-sedation assessment on inpatients; review data from the medical record and IDXRAD to identify real or potential problems with sedation related to the patient's previous experience or their current medical condition; receive complete report from inpatient nurse using REPORTIT; identify and promptly communicates to the PNPs, physicians and team leaders contraindications for sedation; assist with the pre-sedation telephone calls and notify personnel of potential problems in scheduling patients. Initiate sedation and monitor patient during course of the DI exam. Recover patient from sedation and procedure; facilitate and coordinate transfer of patients to units based on diagnostic examination and nursing assessment. Collaborate with team members of the various modalities in achieving completion of diagnostic examination. Prepare patient/family regarding the scheduled diagnostic exam both with sedation and non-sedation procedures; provide patient/family complete discharge instructions prior to discharge. Demonstrate commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and customer service skills. Manage time and resources in a cost-effective manner. Maintain professional development of self and participate in development of others. Participate in achieving hospital/unit goals.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS and interdisciplinary collaboration required. The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills; demonstrate good time and resource management skills; demonstrate flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills and operate unit specific equipment required.

Education, Licensure and Experience:
Bachelor's, Associate's or diploma in nursing with Texas RN license and a minimum three (3) years nursing experience, including one (1) year critical care experience required.
