Position Summary

Overview:
Provide quality nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing and evaluating age appropriate care in a manner incorporating family centered principals and cost effective care.

Responsibilities:
Perform and document assessment of the patient/family (biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, spiritual and environmental); collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care; analyze situations, anticipate potential problems and detect changes in patient status; identify patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status and pain management. Develop a plan of care based upon the nursing assessment; determine which standard of care and practice apply to the patient; prioritize patient care based on new information; discuss patient's plan of care with family or significant individuals; participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences. Implement plan of care; perform therapeutic physician or nurse initiated interventions; assist patient/family in implementing their role in the plan of care. Evaluate and document patient responses to provided care; identify and document changes in patient's condition or abnormal findings and use appropriate problem solving and interventions. Educate patients and families. Demonstrate commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and customer service skills. Accountable for managing time and resources in a cost effective manner. Accountable for maintaining professional development and participate in development of others.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of the principals of biological, physical and social science; observation, assessment, intervention, evaluation, care and counsel; health teaching of persons who are ill; health or prevention of illness; administration of medications or treatments; administration, supervision and evaluation of nursing practices, policies and procedures; developmental (age-appropriate) nursing practices. The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills; good time and resource management skills; flexibility; strong oral and written communication skills; operate unit specific equipment.

Education, Licensure and Experience:
Bachelor's, Associate's or diploma in nursing (Bachelor's preferred) with Texas RN license.
One year of professional nursing experience required
